Help Me Get A Kidney

A Message From Isaac Grant
How can you lose your vision overnight? This has been my surprising reality for over a year now. I’m legally blind, my kidneys are failing, and yet, I’m still fighting to live, which is why I need help.
This came out of nowhere in June 2023 when a routine doctor’s visit revealed my blood pressure was dangerously high at 250.
I was rushed to the hospital, feeling fine—until the next day, when my vision started going in and out. Unfortunately, that was the last day I was going to be able to see.
When I woke up the following day, my vision was completely gone. Doctors tried everything to save my sight, but nothing worked.
Then came the news that my kidneys were failing, operating at only 3%. They inserted a catheter in my chest and began dialysis immediately, marking the start of my new reality of living with Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease.
Doctors still don’t know exactly why my vision went out. But they suspect it was due to high blood pressure damaging my optic nerves.
But This disease has taken so much more from me. I haven’t been able to drive, read, cook, or even bathe without help.
I haven’t been able to enjoy the simple pleasure of eating the foods I used to love, like Pizza or Mexican food, because I have to avoid anything with cheese, dairy, or salt.
I can’t eat fruits and vegetables with too much potassium, like bananas, avocados, and tomatoes, or that are high in phosphorus, like beans.
I can’t drink soda, juice, or anything high in sugar, so I can only drink water and tea.
For over a year, I’ve been enduring a grueling 4-hour dialysis treatment, 3 times a week where the toxins are removed from my blood, leaving me drained and exhausted, unable to do much of anything.
I miss being able to do things on my own, as well as using my phone without the limited things Siri can do. I miss taking a shower instead of a bath because I can’t get the catheter wet. I miss swimming, being able to play poker, or just being on social media.
And yes, I even miss being able to have an alcoholic beverage
I used to do graphic design work, but I haven’t touched my laptop in over a year.
There are days when I am just sad, but overall I am still extremely hopeful.
I’m still fighting to live, but I can’t do it alone. I need a kidney transplant, and I’m asking you to help me.
